HYPERBARIC OXYGENATION THERAPY
CURES PATIENTS IN PRESSURE CHAMBER

russian>>

Hyperbaric Oxygenation Therapy (HOT) is the treatment method of using hyper-pressurized oxygen. The principles of such treatment are based on physical laws, which regulate gas dissolution in body fluids and gas propagation in tissues.

Human being can live without water and food from several days to several weeks, but in case of oxygen shut-off death comes in a couple of minutes. Even oxygen deficit in tissues and organs is fatal.

Oxygen in blood is chemically linked with hemoglobin (19,1 volume percents), as well as dissolved in plasma (0,3 volume percents). Normally it is the hemoglobin of red blood cells that delivers oxygen to tissues, while dissolved fraction plays only a regulatory function in this process.

Diseases, which are associated with impairment of oxygen delivery to organs and tissues, lead to hypoxia (oxygen deprivation). Vital organs (head, brain, kidneys, liver) are extremely sensitive to the lack of oxygen and are not able to function normally under oxygen deficit conditions.

Hypoxia can have various causes, such as disruption of vascular permeability, damage of blood-supplying organs (atherosclerosis, inflammation, edema, etc.), low hemoglobin contents and many other reasons, related to respiratory pathology, cardiac abnormalities, etc. Such conditions can be treated not only by drug therapy, but also with oxygenation therapy. However, under normal atmospheric pressure even pure oxygen respiration cannot solve the hypoxia problem at the level of cells and tissues. The sole solution is to increase the contents of oxygen, transferred by blood. The latter is possible only in pressure chamber, as the gases are better dissolving in fluids under pressure. In pressure chamber the oxygen, dissolved in blood plasma and in inter-tissue fluid, gets in required quantity to the organs and tissues, which hemoglobin fails to reach.

So the oxygen starvation in the damaged organ can be liquidated, its functional resistance to pathogenic factors restored. Moreover, the modern science considers hyperbaric oxygen as a general adaptogene, increasing the body resistance to various stress influences. In addition, HOT also has a range of favorable effects on the patient's condition, such as antiedemic and anti-inflammatory actions, acceleration of the wound process; HOT assists in growth of capillary vessels, reestablishes normal blood flow in organs and tissues, normalizes collagen synthesis, accelerates callus formation, liquidates osteoporosis effects, etc.

Another important benefit of HOT, which is definitely worth mentioning, is minimization of drug therapy for the patient.

Using HOT solely or in combination with other treatment techniques has brought stable successful results in treatment of many diseases, substantially reducing healing period, assisting the wakened body to overcome illness consequences, as well as improving the quality of life for the patients with various chronic conditions.

HOT is most effective for treatment of the following pathologies:

Vascular pathology: obliterating disease of limb vessels, trophic ulcers due to blood circulation disturbances, gaseous vascular embolism, etc.
Cardiac pathology: arrhythmic coronary heart disease (CHD), stenocardia, arrhythmia, extrasystole, cardiac insufficiency, decompensation of postinfarction conditions, cardiac glycoside intoxication, pulmonary heart disease, etc.
Gastrointestinal tract pathology: stomach and duodenum peptic ulcers, posthemorrhagic syndrome after gastrorrhagia, intestinal diseases.
Liver pathology: acute hepatitis, chronic hepatitis, hepatic cirrhosis, liver impairment.
Nervous system pathology: ischemic stroke, craniocerebral injury, encephalopathy, spinal cord injuries, peripheral nerves paresis.
Intoxications: carbon monoxide poisoning, intoxication by methemoglobin-generating substances and cyanides.
Ophthalmic pathology: retina blood circulation disturbance, diabetic retinopathy, optic nerve dystrophy after methyl alcohol poisoning.
Endocrine system pathology: decompensated insulin-dependent diabetes, diabetes complications, Basedow's disease.
Dentofacial pathology: parodontosis, necrotic gingivitis and stomatitis, healing after plastic surgeries, etc.
Obstetrical pathology: intrauterine fetal hypoxia, risk of miscarriage, fetal hypotrophy, immunoincompatible pregnancy, pregnancy with concomitant pathology, pathology of feminine endocrine system, sterility of different etiology.
Neonatal pathology: birth asphyxia, cerebrovascular accident, hemolytic disease of newborn, ulcero-nectrotizing enterocolitis.
Wound pathology: wound infection prevention, sluggishly granulating wounds, burn wound surfaces, frostbites, postoperative wounds in plastic surgery, etc.
Air compression diseases, air and gas embolism, decompression disease.
Gynecology - chronic inflammatory pelvic female diseases.
Radiation injuries: radiation osteonecrosis, myelities, enteritis; special group is formed by patients, who receive chemotherapy and radiation therapy for treatment of cancer.

Recently HOT has been used for treatment of many other diseases. Expressed after-HOT improvement of sexual function in middle-aged and elderly male patients has been observed. HOT has been also successful in rapid relief of abstinence syndrome in narcology.

HOT is recommended for pre- and post-operative periods: the patient recovers quickly and painlessly from general anaesthetic, wound-healing period and complication risks are reduced substantially. Due to these reasons HOT is widely used in cosmetology and plastic surgery.

The experience of using HOT as part of recreational and recovery programs at preventoriums and health centers proves its high effectiveness. HOT usage for healthy people is based on unique comprehensive effect of oxygen under pressure, which substantially develops adaptability of the human body. HOT balances and normalizes many functional systems of the body, reducing the risk of diseases and pathologies. Pressure chamber sessions help to conquer fatigue and recover after a stressful day, have a pronounced rejuvenating effect, increase muscle tonus, and reduce effects of environmental contamination. After the full course of HOT people feel more fit and enjoy better mental and emotionally stability.

HOT in sports medicine helps improving the sportsmen' training ability and accelerates recovery after high practice loads.

HOT sessions are conducted in a special pressure chamber (hyperbaric apparatus), where high oxygen pressure is created under hermetic conditions. Modern hyperbaric apparatuses, manufactured by Russian and international producers, provide wellness and comfort during treatment sessions. The patient can either seat or lie in a free pose, inhaling the flow of curing oxygen. He or she can even sleep during the session. Every patient passes thorough pre-HOT medical check with laboratory tests, is diagnosed and prescribed an individual treatment plan, which may include various forms of therapy besides HOT, if necessary. Duration and number of HOT sessions is determined individually, depending on the diagnosis and indications. Usually the whole treatment program takes from 5 to 12 sessions, depending on particular pathology, of 45-60 minutes each.

The patient's condition is constantly monitored by his/her attending physician. Usually patients feel good during HOT sessions. Proven method and constant control guarantee absence of any adversary effects.

Hyperbaric Oxygenation Therapy is the real chance for the patient to use the latest innovative medical technology in order to improve his/her health. In the atmosphere of pure oxygen people get rid of many diseases, enjoying health and vivacity for many years to come.
